Ministry Of Rural Development

India has become the fastest growing economy. A few decades back, no one ever thought that this developing country would make such advancements. Pick any government department, and you will experience a tremendous amount of evolution in every aspect.

Today, we are going to talk about the Ministry of Rural Development. Its main purpose is to accelerate socio-economic development in the rural areas of India. It mainly focuses upon issues related to health, education, water, roads and housing, etc. But remember that, it operates in rural areas only. The urban areas do not come under this ministry.

Ministry Of Rural Development

The majority of Indian population belongs to rural areas. So, when we are talking about economic growth, we cannot avoid this rural population. In fact, rural population contribute much more than the urban population in any economy. That’s why, rural population needs extra attention regarding everything.

The Ministry of Rural Development is the Indian government department, fully dedicated to rural development. When we say development, education is the first thing comes to the mind. Same, is the case here. Overall, this ministry is focused on factors like education, health, housing, water and roads. We can say, this ministry ensures that rural population gets best facilities to boost economic growth.

Basically, this ministry is divided into two sub departments. These departments include the Department of Rural Development and Department of Land Resources. To run the each department, civil servants as secretary of the department has been appointed. Each department has it sown head in charge in the shape of secretary. Mrs. Anita Choudhry is the secretary of the Department of Land Resources. Department of Rural Development is run by Mr. Jugal Kishore Mahapatra.

Department Of Rural Development:

The department of rural development is responsible for three national schemes which are as follows:

  • Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana
  • Sawrnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana
  • Indira Awaas Yojana

PMGSY scheme is solely responsible for rural road development. Because of these roads, the access to markets has become so easy.

SGSY scheme runs the policies for the rural employment and rural housing.

Indira Awaas Yojana is focused on administration of the district Rural Development Agency. It has many autonomous organizations working which is as follows:

  • Council of Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technology
  • National Rural Road Development Agency
  • National Institute of Rural Development

The minister of rural development serves as the chairman for all three schemes. On the other hand, Secretary of rural development is appointed as the vice chairman.

Department of Land Resources:

As the name implies, this department is fully associated with land and water. Everything related to land will be handled through this department.

The department of Land Resources has launched following three national programs:

  • National Land Resources Modernisation Programme
  • Integrated Watershed Management Programme
  • Technology Development, Extension and Training Programme
