31-year-old man hacked to death over personal enmity in Tamil Nadu’s Mayiladuthurai

Kannan was hacked to death by Kathiravan, Ajith and 13 others in Tamil Nadu’s Mayiladuthurai on Wednesday night, over personal enmity. Kannan, who was arrested and jailed in November 2021 due to a complaint by Kathiravan, was released 15 days ago.

A 31-year-old man, identified as Kannan was hacked to death on Wednesday night, August 17, in Tamil Nadu’s Mayiladuthurai over personal enmity. Police have registered a case and are hunting for 15 accused in connection to the incident.
The victim, Kannan, used to work with a caste-based association and also owned an ambulance.

In November 2021, Kannan got into a fight with Kathiravan, a local man, at a hotel. Based on this, Kathiravan filed a complaint with the police. Police arrested Kannan and also slapped the Goondas Act on him as there were several other complaints against him.

Around 15 days ago, Kannan was released from jail, and on Wednesday night, August 17, he had gone out with his friends, Ranjith and Diwakar.

At that time, Kathiravan, his friend Ajith, and a few others got into an argument with Kannan and his friends. Even though Ranjith and Diwakar managed to escape, Kannan was hacked to death.

A police team, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vasanth Raj, reached the crime scene and sent the body for postmortem.

Based on CCTV visuals from the region, officials were able to identify the attackers. A case has been registered against Kathiravan, Ajith and 13 others. A search is underway to nab the accused.

Further investigations are underway.
