NEW DELHI/SRINAGAR: At least 855 people in Jammu and Kashmir are being traced down over suspicion of coming in contact with Coronavirus positive patients found in Delhi’s Nizamuddin near Markaz Tablighi Jamaat congregation, an incident that has triggered a national furore during the last 48 hours.
Separately,seven key areas of central Kashmir and 20 villages elsewhere were on Tuesday declared red-zones as Coronavirus positive cases in UT rose to 55.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has prepared a 50-page list of congregation or came in contact with those who attended the event on their return.
“The list is based on tower locations and location based services (LBS) to keep surveillance and track those who are hiding. We have already detected 200-plus cases through international debit card usage and GPS locations. We request people not to hide their history as this is use of safety of entire country,” said a top Jammu and Kashmir administration official,
The officials, however said that the list does not mean that all of them attended the event.
“Its just a precautionary exercise. Not anything criminal that they have done yet. Our objective is to ensure we quarantine all of them,” said an official.
The Kashmir administration said they have also roped in 14 private hotels to ensure best quarantine facilities could be offered.
20 villages that have been declared red zone are located in Bandipora, Pulwama, Budgam, Srigagar, Ganderbal and Shopian.
The villages are Parray Mohala Hajin, Chandergeer Hajin, Batagund Hajin Gudoora, Chandgam, Pinglena, Parigam, Abhama,Sangerwani, Khaigam.
“Aggressive contact tracing of positive cases key to control spread of Coronavirus. Yesterday several areas surrounding location of positive cases or untraced contact cases had to be sealed in Jammu, Srinagar, Pulwama, Shopian, Rajouri,” said Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson Rohit Kansal.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said that the sealing of the areas is important. “With some more cases coming positive these areas will be restricted till all precautions and measures are in places,” he added.
Around 1,746 estimated number of people had attended the congregation which inccluded around 824 foreigners from Bangladesh, Kyrgystan, Malaysia, Thaliand, Nepal and Myanmar had come for it apart from 1,000-odd locals from India.
Separately, sources in UP intelligence also said that 167 people from the state had attended the Nizamuddin event and so far only nine people have been traced.
