Dharmendra Debendra Pradhan was born on 26 June 1969, is a BJP leader and presently the Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship in the NDA Government. He was selected to the Rajya Sabha in March 2018 from Madhya Pradesh. Pradhan was a person of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represented the Deogarh in Odisha constituency. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan was also a person of 12th Assembly of Odisha (2000 – 2004) elected from Pallalhara constituency. He is also a member of RSS.
Personal life and family
Dharmendra Pradhan was a son to Debendra Pradhan and Basanta Manjari Pradhan in Talcher district of Angul, Odisha on June 26, 1969. His father was a former BJP MP. He did his PG course in Anthropology from Utkal University in Odisha. Currently, he is married to Mridula T Pradhan and the couple has a son and a daughter.
Dharmendra Pradhan entered into the kingdom of politics as a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). In 1985, he was selected as the President of Talcher College Students’ Union. He actively participated in the students’ movements in the state of Odisha. Soon he was selected as the national secretary of ABVP and subsequently of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha from 2004 to 2006. While he was the President of the Yuva Morcha he participated in campaigns related to reservations on the help of religion.
Pradhan entered into national politics in the year 2004. His father who was a minister in Vajpayee government was an MP from Deogarh constituency. He vacates his seat in 2004 thus paving the way for his son. Dharmendra Pradhan won the Lok Sabha elections of 2004 from the constituency.
Pradhan has occupied many positions during his political career. While he was the person of the state assembly, he became the face of the youth in whole Sangh Parivar. In 2012 he was elected as the member of Rajya Sabha from the Bihar state. Before this, when he was the general secretary of the party in 2011, he also managed the activities of the party in Jharkhand. He was also the manager of party activities in Karnataka, Uttarakhand, and Odisha. In other words, he was also given the award for being the best legislator.
Though his presence into national politics is not long, he managed to secure for himself the position in the Cabinet. Talking to the media after taking the charge, Pradhan explained that his focus “would be to meet the expectations of the poor and the middle-class people of the country”. He also explained that “the people of the country have large expectations from the new government and this government is dedicated to the welfare of the poor”. He further added, “the Indian economy has a prominent role in the world economy, and I would endeavor to make a contribution to this effect”
