During the first week of August, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed several incidents which some way or the other disturbed the locals to the core. As a surprise, the Ruling government of India BJP announced that Article 370 along with Article 35A, would no more serve J&K with special status. This left many stunned, and huge uproar came to the sight from Parliament and even outside the parliament.

One such uproar is coming to us from Kargil. On one hand when BJP’s MP from Kargil praised the center’s decision of revoking Article 370, on the other hand, In Kargil, all local religious and political groups had called for a protest against the Centre’s decision.

Based on the reports, according to the government’s plan, Kargil will be part of the union territory of Ladakh; however, it will not have its own legislature.

What happened next is still can be seen through the images from social media. On Monday, all religious and political organizations of the Kargil district got together to discuss the changes. They released a joint statement convicting the Centre’s move and announced a district-wide hartal on next day August 7.

In a statement, the joint action committee said,

“All the participants unanimously condemned and rejected which was taken without the consent from the people of Jammu & Kashmir and against the aspirations of the people of the state.”

A statement mentioned in the hartal, says, “a token of public resentment against the unjustful (sic) decision taken by the union government.”

The president of the Anjuman-e-Jamiat-ul-Ulema Isna Ashriya Kargil and chairman of the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust Kargil signed the statement.

Even after the clear intention from leaders and groups from Kargil, The elected deputy doesn’t seem to be in action to get any messages. In both parliament and on other platforms including social media, Tsering has been asserting that there is nothing but celebration from the people of Ladakh.

Several BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, lauded Tsering’s speech in parliament. Modi said that the MP “coherently presents the aspirations” of Ladakhis.

News reports that showcased the scenario from Kashmir showcase a different story that occurred even before Tuesday, The news talks about how Kargil people were unhappy with the center’s decision, and yet there was no unified statement came arrived from Ladakh, let alone other places be.

A report from PTI which was in conversation with Sajjad Hussain (who fought the 2019 Lok Sabha elections supported by the National Conference and People’s Democratic Party but lost to Tsering) says,

“Leh was demanding that Ladakh be freed from the Kashmir region over a long time, but we are against the revocation of Article 370,”

“Kargil residents are safeguarding the borders of the country, and the decision which was taken by the government is against our desire and aspirations.” he further added.

The town of Kargil is the second-largest town in Ladakh, after Leh. Kargil town is part of the Ladakh Lok Sabha constituency.
