Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “There are many from Assam who have gone abroad for attending seminars, training or sportspersons who have gone for playing or training or even tourists are stuck in those countries because they cannot return home after commercial flights to India are being taken off. For them we will transfer US$ 2000 each in their bank accounts as an immediate assistance. This will not be for those from the state who are working or studying there.”
“This assistance will be for those who have travelled abroad in last 30 days. We will be notifying an email id tomorrow where these people have to give their passport stampings to show their travel time,” Sarma said.
He added, “Those whose visa period might have expired and they are still abroad and cannot return home are asked to inform us and we will get in touch with Indian embassies in those countries to help them,” Sarma said.
