The new Rs 229 prepaid plan is one of Vodafone’s latest offers extended to battle the threat of Reliance Jio
Vodafone, priced at Rs 229, has introduced a new prepaid recharge plan. The all-new plan is in line with the calling and data combination plans that all operators are offering to their customers, mainly since Reliance Jio took the telecom industry by storm with incredibly priced plans. As a feature of the offer, prepaid subscribers will get 2GB of 4G data per day, with 100 SMS messages per day, and unlimited voice calls which makes it a highly economical plan in terms of the effective monthly cost.
However, essential to be noted is that the Rs 229 monthly prepaid recharge does not have any allocated Talktime. Hence, prepaid users in Vodafone’s network are required to have a minimum Talktime balance registered on their account, to avail the benefit of the unlimited calling off the plan. Given the additional amount of data offered in the plan, Vodafone is likewise offering users free access to Vodafone Play services, which provides free movie streaming and shows, along with other entertainment services.
The plan is following what Vodafone-Idea’s rivals offer. For example, Bharti Airtel, which recently lost its no. 2 positions in the Indian telecom segment by market share to Reliance Jio, offers a prepaid plan of Rs 299, which includes 100 SMS messages per day, 2.5GB data per day, unlimited calling, and access to Amazon Prime Video and Prime Music. With the rising frequency of packaged plans, it remains to be seen if Vodafone-Idea manages to figure out how to save its falling customer base, in hopes of continuing the largest operator in India by market share.
