Bihar man creates fake profile on matrimonial site for dowry, held

A 38-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly creating fake profiles on a matrimonial website to trap women for dowry and later dupe them. The accused, identified as Sanjay Singh alias Hariom Dubey, who fled with cash, car and jewellery was nabbed by the Lucknow Police from Ashiana underpass.

Sanjay Singh, had created a fake profile on shaadi.com and claimed to be an engineer. He used to marry women for dowry and later decamped with the money. He had been absconding for 1 year.
MATRIMONIAL SITE FRAUD

The matter came to light when a woman, resident of Pratapgarh, approached police to file a complaint against the accused. The complainant said that she had met Sanjay through a matrimonial site, following which they got married. However, soon after the marriage, Sanjay started harassing her for dowry.

Sanjay said that he would take me to his native village in Bihar, but while I was busy with the preparations, he fled away with dowry money (Rs 1 lakh, cash, jewellery and car), the woman said.

Meanwhile, police said that Sanjay is already married and has two children.

DCP East Prachi Singh said that Sanjay used to marry women by creating fake IDs on shaadi.com and then duped them of the money received in dowry.
