Day 6 of coronavirus lockdown: Ground reports from cities

NEW DELHI: As various parts of the country continues to struggle amidst the outbreak of novel coronavirus (Covid-19), the government has initiated a series of measures to address the issues of the ailing citizens.

Here is a look at the ground reports from major cities of India —

Delhi

  • Doctors working in Lok Nayak Hospital and GB Pant Hospital on Covid-19 duty would be provided accommodation at Hotel Lalit and payment of the same shall be borne by govt of Delhi.
  • AIIMS, Delhi has decided to convert its sprawling Trauma Centre building into Covid-19 hospital.
  • About 85 people, possibly infected with Covid-19, got admitted at Lok Nayak Hospital, Delhi last night. As of now, the hospital has registered a total of 106 people possibly infected with Covid-19.
  • Delhi Police has formed its own food delivery network comprising staff from PCR and the local police with support from RWAs. The food network has been established in all 15 districts at more than 250 locations, feeding nearly 1,32,000 every day.

Mumbai

  • At least 70-80,000 labourers, many of them living on construction sites in Mumbai, Navi-Mumbai, Raigad, Thane and Palghar, have stayed put, heeding the call to comply with restrictions on movement.
  • With a three-week lockdown and work from home mandatory for most people, the state administration has tasked the managing committees of housing societies to ensure that residents do not step outside their homes unless essential.

Bengaluru

  • With five Covid-19 cases reported from Nanjangud in Mysuru district and amid indications that the number of the infected could rise, the temple town was on Sunday placed on high alert with over 900 people home-quarantined and 500 set to be put under isolation.
  • Karnataka police on Sunday launched KSP CLEAR (Covid, Law Enforcement Assistance to Residents), an e-pass issuing mobile application and digital platform, that will make life easy for business entities involved in essential services and their employees during the lockdown period.

Chennai

  • DMK party has donated Rs 1 crore towards CM Relief Fund. The money was transferred through online. This is apart from MLAs and MPs donating one month salary to the fund.
  • The disaster management team from Chennai reached Salem city on Monday. They have taught, how to wash our hands to the public.
  • The state government has issued an order exempting various farming activities from the lockdown, allowing farmers to carry out their day-to-day work.
  • State govt tells employers to take care of their workers or face legal action.
  • Across Tamil Nadu, police seize 11,565 vehicles for violating lockdown.
  • Anna University researchers develop a reusable mask .

Ahmedabad

  • A 47-year-old man from Gomtipur was the third person from the city to succumb to Covid-19 infection on Sunday. Total of five people have succumbed to coronavirus in the past week. Gujarat on Sunday recorded eight new cases taking the total tally to 63, with Ahmedabad recording the highest 22 cases.
  • Anticipating further spread of novel coronavirus, the Gujarat government, until Sunday evening, had put in place isolation facilities of 3,000 beds for confirmed and suspected cases of Covid-19.
  • State government officials said that additional facilities of 2,900 beds, complete with ICU and dedicated isolation facilities, will be made operational in the next 10 days.
