National Education Day on Maulana AbulKalam Azad’s birth anniversary


National Education Day being observed today to mark Maulana AbulKalam Azad's birth anniversary

November 11 is the National Education Day. The day is observed each year on November 11 to commemorate the birth anniversary of first Union Minister of Education Maulana AbulKalam Azad.

In 2008, the Union HRD Ministry had said November 11 as National Education Day, since then it is being celebrated as the National Education Day, without declaring it a holiday. Commonly known as Maulana Azad was a freedom fighter, scholar and he served India as Education Minister from August 15, 1947, to February 2, 1958.

During his period he Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad believed that education was for one and all. He was responsible for establishing up of apex bodies such as AICTE and UGC. IITs, IISc and School of Architecture and Planning were also his brainchild. President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Maulana Azad.

“Remembering Acharya JB Kripalani and Maulana AbulKalam Azad on their birth anniversaries,” tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Remembering Maulana Azad, President Kovind tweeted, “On his birth anniversary, tributes to Maulana Azad, freedom fighter, scholar and India’s first Education Minister. In his honor, we celebrate November 11 as National Education Day #PresidentKovind”
