Priyanka slams Modi on his nationalistic poll pitch

While All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi on Monday questioned the source of money being spent by the BJP on Modi’s publicity, his sister and party’s general secretary Priyanka slammed the Prime Minister over his ‘nationalism’ pitch for the Lok Sabha polls and said that he should learn to respect all martyrs including the father of an opposition leader (an obvious reference to Rajiv Gandhi) who laid down their lives for the country.
Though Priyanka neither named Rajiv nor Rahul, her reference was apparent as she said, “Jo shaheed apke vipaksha ke neta ke pita hai … unka bhi aadar kariye (also respect the martyr who is the father of an opposition leader).

Addressing an election rally along with AICC president Rahul Gandhi and west UP in charge Jyotiraditya Scindia in support of UP Congress president and party’s candidate from Fatehpur Sikri, Raj Babbar, Priyanka said if BJP and it’s leaders claim to be nationalists, then they should respect martyrs irrespective of their religion or political affiliations. “You are not a nationalist if you continue disrespecting those who have given their lives for the country”, she said.

Targeting Modi, who often makes references to Pakistan, Priyanka said, “If you are nationalistic, speak about India and not Pakistan during elections. Speak about your policies and what you have done or will do for the youths, the farmers, the backward and the women”.

Even during the last election, Priyanka had slammed Modi for “insulting” her martyred father. In a statement issued post-Modi’s rally in Amethi, Priyanka had said, “Inhone Amethi ki dharti pe mere shaheed pita ka apmaan kiya hai, Amethi ki janta is harkat ko kabhi maaf nahi karegi. Inki neech rajniti ka jawaab mere booth ke karyakartaa denge … Amethi ke ek ek booth se jawaab aayega … (He has insulted my martyred father on the soil of Amethi. People of Amethi will never forgive him for this act. Workers in Amethi will reply to his low-level politics. They will reply from each of the booths).
