Bangaru Thalli- Girl Child Protection scheme- will be connected to the Aadhaar and one of the parents should mandatorily have the Aadhaar number to get the benefit for the child.

One year time

However, it was resolved to give a one-year time frame for the parents of the girl child to get the Aadhaar number as the scheme was introduced only in May. While the scheme would be applied to all the girl children born from May, the second instalment next year would be suspended if the parents failed to get their Aadhaar enrolment and the unique identification number. The payments would be resumed only after the parents provides the Aadhaar details. It was proposed to launch cash disbursement in the scheme from Chityal in Warangal district which recorded the lowest child sex ratio of 545 girls for 1,000 boys. However, the place would be decided as per the convenience and schedule of the Chief Minister.

The meeting also confirmed the steps for effective implementation of the scheme which involved the release of cash incentives as the child reached different milestones in education and other parameters like immunization. The technology to be adopted for recording the milestones of each beneficiary and provide them with the cash incentive accordingly was also discussed at length.

It is anticipated that about six lakh children would have been born since the announcement of the Bangaru Thalli scheme. For all of them, cash advantages would be extended from July 1. Though only families with white ration cards were eligible under the scheme, officials said that with 90 per cent of the people in the State were white cardholders, the majority of girl children in the State would be covered under the scheme.
