Under the provisions to promote and secure the development of Delhi, in 1955, The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) was formed. The DDA was the very first development authority formed in India. Development authorities across the country have been following its model to carry out planned development in urban areas. The DDA also has giving housing to over half of the population — 11 million — in Delhi. The DDA has an important task for providing housing, infrastructure, and commercial and leisure facilities.
As Delhi is a union territory, land fall under the Centre purview. This is why the DDA is actually a Central body working in coordination with the UT government. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal currently came with a Bill to confirm statehood in Delhi. If that happens, the DDA will become a state subject.
The DDA Master Plan was come in 1962 ensuring an organized and structured development of haphazard growth of Delhi. This included confirmation of new land that can be developed into residential properties and make self-contained colonies by providing ample commercial office and retail complexes as well. The DDA Masterplan was revised in 1982 to evaluate the Master Plan 2001 and then re-revised in 2007 to form the Delhi Master Plan 2021. It lays down the basic infrastructure requirements for a city estimated to have a population of 128 lakhs (12.8 million).
DDA commenced its housing activities in 1967 and has played a crucial role in providing more than a million houses to the people of Delhi, housing about half the population of the national capital. DDA has been constructing houses in Delhi according to the requirements and purchasing capacity of different stages of society.DDA, from time to time, has been announcing schemes through newspapers and advertisements for various categories of flats.
The Delhi Development Authority takes up the land for development in Delhi. So far, over 64,354.88 acres (260.4350 km2) of land has been taken up with successful development projects on 59,504 acres (240.80 km2) and 30,713.95 acres (124.2949 km2) as residential land. Other then this, the construction projects, DDA land development also includes providing a lush greenbelt and forest area for a clean and healthy environment by developing regional parks, neighbourhood parks, district parks, playfields, and sports complexes
Delhi Development Authority (DDA) aims to provide an entire network of sports facilities through sports complexes, play fields, multi-facility gymnasiums and fitness centres, golf courses etc. DDA provides the basic infrastructure facilities, coaching through the top sportspersons in India, providing stipend and kits and other facilities to identify and train budding sports talent in Delhi.

DDA Dwarka Sports Complex along with DDA Saket Sports Complex plans to host State Level tournaments to provide a platform to professional and amateur sports people to showcase their talent.
