RAIPUR: The Maoists have acknowledged that three of their rebels were gunned down in the encounter in Sukma on March 21 in which 17 security personnel were martyred. Police believe 22 Maoists were killed that day.
The rebels’ south sub-zonal bureau issued a statement on Wednesday, confirming 1 PLGA Battalion was involved in the ambush and naming the dead Maoists as Sakru, Rajesh and Sukku, natives of Mettagaon, Gangaloor and Bairamgarh in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. They released pictures of the cache of arms and ammunition looted from slain troops, and cremation of the three rebels in a jungle. Police had said several Maoists were killed or wounded in the counterattack by forces.
