Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday alleged the Congress destroyed not only Gujarat but the entire country. Modi also alleged that the “Congress model” meant nepotism, casteism, sectarianism and vote bank politics.
“The Congress model means corruption, nepotism, dynastic politics, sectarianism and casteism. They are known for indulging in vote bank politics and creating rifts between people to be in power,” news agency PTI quoted Modi as saying at a rally in Mehsana in north Gujarat, where the two-phase assembly elections are scheduled to be held next month.
“This model has not only destroyed Gujarat but India too. That is the reason why we have to work hard to take the country ahead today,” he said.
Modi also claimed that in the last 20 years, Gujarat has changed a lot. “Today’s generation does not know the scarcity Gujarat faced. This generation has not seen scarcity. For this, the previous generation has worked hard,” the PM said.
Modi is one of the star campaigners of the BJP for the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections that are slated to be held in two phases on December 1 and December 5. He is also scheduled to address election rallies at Dahod, Vadodara, and Bhavnagar on Wednesday.
Among the other star campaigners for the BJP in Gujarat are Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Union home minister Amit Shah and chief minister Bhupendra Patel.
Polling in Gujarat will be held for a total of 182 assembly constituencies.
In the power in the state, for over two decades, the BJP hopes to return to power by a handsome margin.
However, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has jumped into the fray in a bid to extend its national footprint after its spectacular assembly poll victory in Punjab.
