Inspired by Bunty Babli, duo cons people through dating apps, held

Police have arrested two people, including a woman, for duping people after befriending them on dating apps. Police also recovered 8 mobile phones, 20 cards including PAN, UIDAI and debit, Rs 15000 in cash, wallets, 18 pills and 250 gm powder of alprazolam from the accused’s possession.

The accused have been identified as Rakhi aka Kashish and Santosh Kumar Bhagat.
MAN ROBBED IN BUNTY-BABLI STYLE

The matter came to light when police received a complaint on October 4 wherein the complainant alleged that he was befriended by a girl named Kashish on an online dating platform. After talking for a while, Kashish requested him to meet, to which he agreed and met her at Neelam Chowk.

Things took a turn when Kashish offered a cold drink to the complainant at his house and he fell unconscious after consuming it.

It was when he gained consciousness, he found that he had been robbed off his mobile phone, cards, gold and silver jewellery which were missing from his house. Transactions amounting to over Rs 1 lakh were also made using his mobile phone. Following this, he tried to contact Kashish but in vain.

ACCUSED ARRESTED

After a detailed investigation, police spotted Kashish in Haryana and she was arrested from a hotel in Faridabad. She was accompanied by Santosh, who was also arrested.

On sustained interrogation, the duo disclosed that they were inspired by the 2005 Bollywood flick Bunty Aur Babli.

Rakhi told police that she used to chat with victims on social media platforms and later asked them to meet in private. At meetings, she used to give sedative tablets to the victims and robbed them of their belongings once they fell unconscious.

She duped more than 20 people with same modus operandi.
