Karnataka seals border and will screen domestic air passengers

BENGALURU: Karnataka government on Sunday announced the closure of all its border and will screen all domestic air passengers as part of the measures to contain the spread of Covid-19.
The state has reported 20 positive cases of Covid-19 including two from the border districts of Kalaburagi and Chikkaballapur.
The decision to seal the border was taken during an emergency meeting presided by chief minister B S Yediyurappa and attended by noted cardiologist Dr Devi Shetty, deputy CM Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, home minister Basavaraj Bommai, medical education minister Dr Sudhakar and members of the task force on Covid-19.
“Movement of people has be to restricted to stop the virus from spreading, teams have been deployed at the border check-posts to screen all motorists,” a home department officials said. The CM also requested those residing in cities not to visit villages for the next two weeks as part of the break-the-chain strategy to contain the spread of the virus. These apart, screening of all domestic passengers at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru and other airports in the state will be started.
The government has decided to convert the 1,700 bed Victoria Hospital in the city into a dedicated Covid-19 hospital. A 24/7 control room will be opened at the Balabrooie government guesthouse in the city and more testing labs will be opened, the government stated.
