National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Assam

The National Rural Mission (NRHM) is a program that was launched by the Indian Prime Minister the honorable Manmohan Singh in April of 2005. This initiative is aimed at providing accessible, inexpensive, and quality health needs to the majority of the rural population, mainly the vulnerable groups. On 1st May of 2013, the Union Cabinet ensured the approval of the launch of National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) being a submission of an all-encompassing National Health Mission (NHM). Here, the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) becomes the other submission of the National Health Mission. Under the umbrella of NRHM, the Empowered Action Group (EAG) states and the North Eastern states, which are Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh receive special attention. The purpose of the mission is to create a fully working, community-owned, and devolved health care system. This will ensure that health issues such as water, sanitation, nutrition, social, gender, and education equality are achieved.
