Ordnance Clothing factory is the oldest company in India that manufactures clothes for the Indian military including the army, air force and navy. They are a part of Indian Ordnance factories which are a part of Ordnance factory board. All these companies are controlled by Indian Defence Ministry. Different factories produce different clothing for the defence needs. The Ordnance Clothing factory Shahjahanpur Uttar Pradesh are into the manufacturing of Defence Uniforms, winter clothing, mosquito nets, high clothing required for Altitude, woollen clothing, blankets etc.
It was formed in the year 1914 and was called Army Clothing factory Shahjahanpur. Initially, in the year 1879 Lt. Governor of Bengal Sir Ashley Eden started 3 factories for manufacturing defence garments at Madras, Bombay and Alipur. Some functions of Alipur factory was shifted to Shahjahanpur in 1914 and in the year 1925 all the functions were shifted and the factory at Alipur was closed permanently.
