NEW DELHI: Indian Railways is going to step up manufacturing of personal protective equipment (PPE) garments on large scale in its zonal workshops and production units. Two samples produced by the Northern Railways have passed the tests at DRDO lab in Gwalior.
Technical specifications of these PPEs are now ready, and material suppliers are in place, railways said. “Now the production can start in right earnest. This development is big boost to equip our doctors and paramedics on the front line of this battle against Covid-19,” the railway ministry said. .
Railways is aiming to produce three sets per sewing machine per hour for 15 days in its production units and workshops.
Jagadhari workshop of Northern Railway which developed this sample, will share the technical details including specifications of the approved sample and quantities of materials required for producing PPEs , with other zonal workshops and production units of Indian Railways. Indian railway stores department have been designated to procure the material for production of garments.
Manufacturing of PPE quickly can set a benchmark for others to follow and this will help boost the production of one the most vital protection for those on the front line.
