Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav to contest 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Kannauj

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav to contest 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Kannauj

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday announced that he will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Kannauj constituency.

Talking to reporters, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said, “What will I do if I am sitting empty? I will fight the election. Our job is to contest elections.”

Akhilesh Yadav said that he would contest from where he had contested for the first time, adding that it would be the party’s final call in the elections.
In 2019, Subrat Pathak of the BJP won the Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 12353 votes by defeating Dimple Yadav, wife of Akhilesh Yadav. Dimple Yadav took over Kannauj after Akhilesh Yadav resigned from the Lok Sabha in 2012 after becoming the youngest chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

In 2009, Akhilesh Yadav effortlessly won two Lok Sabha seats — Kannauj and Firozabad. Meanwhile, the party has fielded Dimple Yadav as the party candidate for the Mainpuri Lok Sabha bypoll, necessitated by the death of her father-in-law and SP Patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.
