NEW DELHI: After rolling out eight special parcel trains for faster movement of smaller cargo of essential items, the Indian Railways has decided to run more such trains on 20 more routes across the country.
Items such as packets, medical items, electronic, FMCG and dairy products and edible oil which were earlier transported through trucks, can now be transported by trains.
This will prove to be a big boost to e-commerce firms and more so when more trucks are going off roads amid lockdown in the wake of Covid-19 and even large share of labourers engaged in loading and unloading of bulk cargo have returned home.
Railway ministry said parcel vans will be available for quick mass transportation across the country for private entities and other customers including state governments to transport such goods. TNN
