Portals that are pretending as official passport service websites the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has published a warning.
The ministry’s passport division has cautioned that such fraudulent passport portals and mobile apps dupe people by collecting data.
The fraudulent passport portals also levy additional hefty charges for filling up the online application information and scheduling appointment for passport concerned services, the alert, which appears as a pop-up on the official website for passport services, states.
Citing examples, the alert says that the fake passport websites are registered in the domain name *.org, *.in, *.com.
The alert says that those applying for the Indian passport should not visit the aforementioned portals. The alert warns everyone seeking out for passport assistance to be careful while booking appointments for getting passports.
