Darjeeling District, West Bengal

Darjeeling is a small municipality in the state of West Bengal, India. It is a hill station and a big tourist attraction for local as well as international tourists. Darjeeling is situated at the beautiful mountain range of Mahabharat, which is also known as the Lesser Himalaya. The town is located at an elevation of approximately 6700 ft. from the sea level. There are a lot of sights worth seeing which include the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway which is known to be a UNESCO world heritage site. Darjeeling is very famous for its tea industry. The tea industry is a big occupation there as the climatic conditions are very favorable for the cultivation of tea.
The area covered by the town of Darjeeling is 10.57 square kilometers. Just like the geographical area, the population is very small there. According to the 2011 census, there are 132,016 people residing in the town of Darjeeling.
