In 1971, one of the working groups regarding the planning commission showed some reservations about the transportation system of Delhi. They said that the transport department is an extension of the municipal corporation and is not working as effectively and commendable that it should be working. In addition to poor services, the operational costs were very high and the profits were very low. So, a law was passed by the legislative government which was called the Delhi Road transportation Laws Act. The law stated the taking over of all the liabilities and assets of the Delhi Transportation Undertaking and a whole new Delhi Transport Corporation was created. Since its establishment, the DTC has been working hard on providing the residents of Delhi with secure, fast, efficient, reliable, economical and well-coordinated means of public transportation. The aim behind the establishment was to promote the transport business and to provide the people with adequate standards of transportation facilities.
