Dental Council of India

Dental Council of India was formed on 12th April 1940. It is a statutory body formed under the Dentists act 1948. The Government of India and Ministry of health & family provide funds to this council. The Dental Council of India was established to maintain consistent standards in Dental undergraduate and postgraduate education. They undertake visits and inspections to the dental colleges, provides permission to start a new dental college or to start a new course or increase the number of seats. The council also provides curriculum for dental training and mechanisms for such training. They also prescribe the examination process, standards and other requirements as per the act. The main objective of this council is to ensure professionalism in the field of dentistry and also to ensure all dental colleges are affiliated with a recognized university. There were many amendments to the acts that were passed to control the growth of dental colleges and other related matters.
