Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth agricultural university is located at the Ratnagiri district in the state of Maharashtra, India. The university came into being on 18th May 1972. It was earlier known as Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth. Later on 12th February 2001, it was renamed to the present name. The university is one of the pioneers of agricultural research and development in India. A native research Centre of the university situated at Karjat has researched and developed a few very special varieties of rice which are very high quality and tasteful. The focal areas of research and development at the university include fisheries, rice, fruits, and horticulture. Some priceless research has been carried out there on these fields. It has four sub-campuses that specialize in the field that they belong to. Extensive research and development work is being carried out on all these campuses regarding fruits, fisheries, rice, horticulture and the latest technological trends in agriculture.
