Indian navy safeguards and protects the country by safeguarding on, above and under the sea. The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) controls and administers the Indian Navy. Vice chief of the naval staff, three other Principal Staff Officers i.e. the Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff (DCNS), the Chief of Personnel (COP) and the Chief of Material (COM) provide assistance to the CNS. The flag officer controls the three commands of the navy. The western naval command whose headquarters is located at Mumbai, Eastern Naval Command headquarters is located at Visakhapatnam and the Southern Naval command whose headquarters is located at Kochi. The Western and the eastern naval command control their operation and activities over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. The Southern Naval command is considered as a training command. There are around 33 training centers spread across the country providing valuable training to the naval staff.
