Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL) was founded on 18th August 1950, as a private company, co-owned by the Government of Travancore, Cochin and the Indian Government, with the motivational aim of producing commercially useable sand. In order to do so, the first-ever plant of IREL was installed at Aluva, Kerala in order to extract the required substance Thorium.
At present, IREL is a well-established setup of as many as four units. The corporate office is located in Mumbai. The company is manufacturing and supplying as many as six metals to the open market including Sillimanite, Zircon, Ilmenite, Garnet, Rutile and monetize. Along with these metals, there are a lot of other valuable products that are offered by the company. IREL has a sales turnover of over Rs.2600 million along with exports of more than a thousand million rupees.
