Legislative Assembly, Assam


Assam Legislative Assembly is the legislative assembly in charge of the Assam province. The first sitting of the assembly was on the 7th of April, 1937.

Assam Legislative assembly was formed from the 1935 Act of the Government of Indian which led to the adoption of the British parliament. The Act which was adopted on the 2nd of August, 1935 was executed in 1937. This led to the Assam Legislative Assembly, which consisted of 108 members, first sitting on the 7th of April, 1937. Assam is located in North East India and has a rich history. The state is always referred to as a mini-India due to their cultural heritage which is very rich as well as the presence of various races, culture, and religion in the State. The number of the members of the assembly has varied over the years due to changes in the geographical boundaries of the state. Assam legislative assembly currently consists of 126 members who are headed by a speaker.
