MIB is the nodal agency of the Government of India for policy formulation and administration of rules, regulations, and laws relating to information, broadcasting, press, and films in India. The ministry is headed by the Union Minister of Information and broadcasting, assisted by a State Minister supported by a team of bureaucrats. There are various departments, divisions and agencies under this ministry including Prasar Bharti, All India Radio, Publication Division, Song and Drama Division, Registrar of Newspapers of India, Directorate of Field Publicity, Directorate of Advertising & Visual Publicity, Press Council of India, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Central Board of Film Certification, Press Information Bureau and Photo Division. The ministry also publishes various documents under its mandate, such as India Year Book. It is also responsible for the auctions of frequencies of Radio services.
