Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) started its operations on 1st October 1974. In March 1975 NBSE conducted their first High school leaving certificate (HSC) examination for 2008 students at 6 school centers. Their autonomous syllabus was introduced in the year 1979. Many seminars, training study tour, and workshops were undertaken to frame a perfect curriculum for the students. Thereafter many changes were made in the curriculum and in the process of conducting the examination.
The NBSE can conduct HSC examinations for arts, science, and commerce under the NBSE Act 1990. The board comprises of co-opted members, members selected by the government, ex officio members and a Chairman. Different officers are responsible for different functions related to examination, administration, computer, accounts, and academics. The main objectives of the NBSE board include dictate of the course, conduct examinations, declare results, prepare syllabus, textbooks, provide advice, inspect schools, conduct training and workshops etc.
