Hoshangabad is a district in Madhya Pradesh. It was earlier known as Narmadapuram which was named after the river Narmada. It is famous for its attractive ghats and many other tourist places. There are many religious ceremonies and festivals that are celebrated along the river Narmada. Sethani Ghat is an important location here. It is located on the banks of the river Narmada. The population in this district is quite low. In the year 2001, the population in this district was about 97, 357. The literacy rate is quite high at about 73%. There are many schools and colleges established in this district. Hoshangabad is the largest producer for Soya bean in India. Agriculture is the major occupation in this district. There are also a few paper mills and printing industries too. Tawa resort, Bandhrabhan, Hushang Shah Fort, Salkanpur etc. are some of the tourist attractions in Hosahangabad. There are also a wildlife sanctuary and National park in this city.
