Shamli District, Uttar Pradesh

Shamli District is situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. On 28th September 2011, SHamli came into existence when it got split from the Muzaffarnagar District. Originally it was named as Prabudh Nagar. But later in July 2012, the district was renamed as Shamli. It is located on the Dehli-Saharanpur Highway at a distance of about 100 kilometers from the capital city. The lands therein Shamli are very fertile and the weather conditions are best suited for cultivation. So, agriculture is the largest occupation of Shamli district.
Shamli is situated at the eastern bank of the Yamuna River. The Yamuna River is situated at the borderline of Haryana & Uttar Pradesh, which are two big states of India. The total covered area of Shamli District is 1043 square kilometers. The population of Shamli calculated in the 2011 census by the Indian Government hits about 1274815 people, with a population density of 1200 people per kilometer.
