Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Womens University (SNDT) was started by Maharshi Dr. Dhondo Keshav Karve in the year 1916. It is the first women’s university in India and also in South East Asia. The university’s headquarter campus is located at Churchgate Mumbai. It has one campus in Pune and two other campuses in Mumbai. SNDT has the affiliation with different colleges in Assam, Maharashtra, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, and Surat. The University has 38 departments including arts, social science, commerce, education, fine art, law, home science, science, management studies etc. It offers Ph.D., Master’s degree, graduation, P.G Diploma, Diploma and certificate programmes for different streams and courses. SNDT is the first university all over Maharashtra to receive a five-star rating from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India. The main objective of this university is to provide higher education as well as professional and vocational courses to their students making them independent to meet their social and economic needs.
