The Social Justice and Empowerment Department of Haryana is responsible for carrying out a number of activities for the protection, rehabilitation, and care of individuals who are underprivileged socially.
The Social Justice and Empowerment Department in Haryana became autonomous in 1992 with the splitting of the Department of Social Welfare. The Department undertakes certain schemes which include rehabilitation, care, and protection of people who are underprivileged socially. The department started its schemes with just a small area which has since expanded to cover many rural and urban areas. The schemes of the department are mostly targeted towards destitute women and widows, mentally ill kids, deaf, dumb and blind, senior citizens, dwarfs, minority communities as well as destitute children and orphans amongst others. The department offers economic and social assistance to this group of people in order to help them survive and be able to take care of themselves.
