Zilla Panchayat, Tumkur, Karnataka


Tumakuru is an industrial city situated in the Karnataka state of India. It was formerly called as Tumkur. The city is at a distance of 70-kilometers from the city of Bengaluru. It is spread over an area of almost 48.6 square kilometers and has a population consisting of 305821 inhabitants. The Zilla Panchayat of Tumakuru is a governing body which oversees the matters of the district and is elected by the people of Tumakuru. It comprises of 11 members of legislative assembly, 3 MLCs, 3 MPs, 57 members of Zilla Panchayat, 212 members of Taluk Panchayat and 5362 members of Grama Panchayat. It has 5 standing committees including general standing committee, social justice committee, agricultural and industrial committee, finance, audit, and planning committee, and educational and health committee. All these standing committees are responsible to look after the development and effective management of their respective fields.
