While testing a new feature, the company first tests features with iOS users in beat, followed by Android beta users everyone. Similar is the case with the upcoming WhatsApp feature. The meta-owned instant messaging app is preparing to introduce a new feature for iOS users that will give users the ability to view Status directly from WhatsApp’s chat list. Now, that’s interesting and also not so much, which is because the feature may make the chat look slightly cluttered. According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp with its iOS beta version 220.127.116.11 shows status updates within the chat list. It should be noted that the feature is available only for some beta testers and will soon be released for everyone. It is supposed to be a similar feature available on Instagram for a long time. Notably, the visibility of the Status feature in the chat list will not only act as a significant push for WhatsApp but also allow the app the chance to display advertisements as users view Status images and videos, just like Instagram Stories. There have been reports suggesting that WhatsApp will soon show ads on its platform and this could be the first step in that direction.
The report also suggests that WhatsApp will give users a choice of whether or not they wish to view Status posts immediately in the chat list. Additionally, users will be able to publish pictures and videos that will disappear after 24 hours, similar to how Instagram Stories work.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced three new privacy features for WhatsApp with the aim to provide give users more control over their chats with added protection and privacy. One of the features which WhatsApp is currently working on is the screenshot blocking feature. This will restrict users to take screenshots on the ‘view once’ images or videos on the app. It’s under development on WhatsApp beta for iOS and updates are awaited on its beta version for Android. Additionally, the instant messaging platform will also allow users to hide their ‘online’ status soon. These privacy features will be available for everyone in the coming months, the company already confirmed.
